The city is one of the world’s most exciting destinations for world class events. Global superstars. Even the Olympics. Here are just some of the events that have come to Glasgow in recent years.

  • Glasgow 2014 XX Commonwealth Games – hailed as “the best-ever” Games. The city hosted Scotland’s biggest sporting and cultural spectacular, which saw 1.2million ticket sales to events across Glasgow, hundreds of thousands of visitors and 6,500 athletes from 71 nations enjoying home grown hospitality
  • MTV Europe Music Awards - Broadcast live on MTV channels reaching more than half a billion households worldwide and engaging tens of millions of viewers on TV and online. The MTV EMA provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase Glasgow
  • BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend – BBC Radio 1’s flagship event and Europe’s largest free festival, 65,000 music fans.
  • BBC Sports Personality of the Year – Glasgow was the first Scottish city to host the BBC star-studded event attracting the biggest names in sports 
  • Davis Cup - Glasgow’s Emirates Arena played host to two rounds of ‘The World Cup of Tennis’ in 2015 attracting almost 50,000 spectators both events 
  • Duel in the Pool - Glasgow hosted the biennial contest between the USA and European Allstars in 2013 showcasing the sport’s most exciting swimmers in the “Ryder Cup” of the pool
  • Turner Prize – arguably the UK’s most prestigious award for contemporary art, this will be the first time that the coveted award has been held in Scotland
  • 2012 Olympics – Glasgow staged eight Olympic football matches at Hampden Park
  • Sporting events – we hosted the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final and the 2007 UEFA Cup Final. Together they attracted almost 100,000 people
  • MOBO Awards − In 2009 Glasgow became the first city outside London to host the MOBO Awards. We played host again in 2011, and 2013 and they’ll be coming back to Glasgow in 2016
  • MTV Crashes…Glasgow − filmed at the Old Fruitmarket in 2010 and headlined by global superstar P Diddy. The show was broadcast to over 640 million households in 161 countries
  • Music events – there are around 130 every week in Glasgow – from intimate shows to stadium sell-outs. Glasgow was crowned the top place for concerts in the UK outside of London in the UK’s Top 100 list, compiled by PRS For Music
  • Award-winning expertise and experience – we’ve been recognised for three consecutive years as the Best City for Marketing/Branding at the SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities Award
  • An established, international, sports location − we play host to international competitions in athletics, gymnastics, badminton, football, boxing, table tennis, netball, rugby and volleyball
