Visitors to this year’s Piping Live!, Glasgow’s International Piping Festival, will enjoy a warm welcome thanks to staff and volunteers completing a unique online training module.

Glasgow Welcomes, the city’s tourism service initiative, joined forces with The National Piping Centre to encourage 40 volunteers to complete Glasgow Welcomes-Online, a bespoke online customer service programme for tourism, hospitality and leisure staff.

The module, developed by Glasgow Welcomes, is designed to enable the city’s frontline teams to easily access customer service training. It is tailored to the city, with practical advice on how to deliver excellent customer service, information on Glasgow’s top attractions so that frontline staff can offer up-to-date advice on what there is to see and do in the city and facts and figures on major events taking place this year, including venues and dates.

Piping Live! 2015 takes place at various venues across the city from 10th to 16th August.

Gemma Cannon, General Manager, The National Piping Centre said:

“We’re hosting a number of live events during Piping Live! 2015 and as such, we have recruited a large number of volunteers to help out during this busy period. We wanted to ensure that our volunteers are equipped with the same knowledge and skills as our core team and Glasgow Welcomes-Online was the perfect solution. It’s packed full of practical advice on how to deliver a fantastic customer experience, so visitors can expect an exceptionally friendly welcome throughout the city festival.”

Stella Callaghan, Project Manager, Glasgow Welcomes said:

“Great customer service is a significant part of Glasgow’s reputation as a top visitor destination. We have to ensure that a visitor’s entire journey, whether they’re staying, eating, drinking, travelling or sight-seeing across the city, delivers a great experience. Our programme is designed to help staff deliver the kind of customer service that will encourage people to come back again and tell their friends.”
